Our homes are the places where we spend the most time. It is within these hallowed walls children grow, memories are made, and lives are molded. Most grown adults can explain to you, in detail, their homes as they grew up. Our homes leave an impression with us. Often times parents especially start to get a stale feeling about their house. It may be due to the fact that it isn’t clean or because it is outdated as far as the decor goes. For whatever reason, there is a staleness that can occur when a home hasn’t been touched or changed in years. Nobody wants to feel this way about the place that they spend so much of their time.
You want your home to feel fresh and alive, not dank, dirty, and disheveled. If you are feeling like your home is beginning to fall into the latter category, making some simple changes with your home decor items can make a world of difference. Follow these tips to revamp your home decor items, and in doing so you will refresh the feel of your home as well. First, you want to determine what you want your end picture to be. You want this end picture to be within reason. If it something that is completely unachievable, any efforts you put forth will only be disappointing. Next, make a list of the order in which you’d like to work on your home, by way of rooms. One big mistake that individuals often make when they are trying to do a revamp project at home, is attempting to tackle the whole house at once.
Unless you have a professional design team working around the clock, and maybe you do, attempting to hit on every room at once will leave you with a large project and very little progress. Biting off more than you can chew is never a good way to start a project. You don’t want to get discouraged and end up quitting halfway through, leaving your home in a bigger mess than when you began. Working on your home a room at a time will allow you to finish an aspect of the project, feels some accomplishment, and move on to the next project. As you go into a room to start working on it, begin by getting rid of the old home decor items that are outdated. You don’t have to redo every piece of furniture and decor in a room to refresh it, so don’t feel overwhelmed. Once the items you know are outdated are gone, look at your basics.
If they are usable, you can work back up, finding new home decor items to fill in the pieces. If they aren’t usable you may want to replace them. You could also consider refinishing furniture, covering old couches, or rearranging items with another room. You may be surprised at how updating smaller items like pillows, frames, drapes, and rugs can give a previously aged feeling room a whole new feel and look. You may also want to consider changing up the paint on the walls to revamp things a bit. Adding in some color or a pattern into the home is a great way to make things look up to date and refreshed without going too overboard. Instead of living in a place that feels stale and outdated, make your home a fresh and fabulous location that you love. A few simple changes in home decor can do a lot for your living space. You will find that with some concentrated effort you can create a whole new home that you love.
