Growing up in the Midwest, I had little desire to live somewhere on the coast. I was always interested in that type of lifestyle but did not find it suitable for my personality. The way the coast is depicted in the media was always fascinating, but never enticing enough to get me interested in moving. I spent the majority of my young adult life in the state of Iowa, and finally decided to pursue my master’s degree at the University of Michigan. Being so drawn to this area of the map, I was very excited about changing my scenery, while staying close to home. It was in graduate school that I met my future husband. We were both in the same program and shared a lot of the same interests. I had not anticipated meeting someone so quickly in my program, but was overwhelmingly happy that I did.
When we first met, I found that my future husband was also from the Midwest, and had no intentions of leaving. We celebrated the fact that we had come from the heart of the country, and decided we would likely raise a family in this area. After our engagement, we immediately started preparing for our wedding. We figured we would likely get married in my hometown, as his family lived nearby as well. With all of the plans focused on the Midwest, the idea of a honeymoon got lost in the shuffle. Because had decided to get married in the late fall, we started wondering where to go that would be a bit of a change of scenery. We both suddenly realized that we did not want to celebrate our marriage in the drab, dreary, overcast weather that is the Midwest in the fall seasons.
We immediately realized that we needed to find a location for our honeymoon that was nice and warm. After telling my parents that we were looking for somewhere on the sunny side to celebrate our honeymoon, my mother suggested Key West lodgings. At first, I thought that she might be crazy because I had always imagined Key West to be a Spring Break location, and not a place to have a quiet honeymoon. However, my mother advised me to look online for a Key West bed and breakfast. I did not quite understand why she told me to simply look for Key West bed and breakfast online, but after doing so, I was able to learn a great deal about the city of Key West.
I was surprised to find, upon searching for Key West bed and breakfast, that there were a lot of quiet and quaint areas of Key West. Key West looked shockingly beautiful and the exact definition of a relaxing vacation. By looking through some Key West bed and breakfasts, I was able to see exactly where I wanted to spend my honeymoon, and I booked a room at a North Key West bed and breakfast immediately. While I thought my future husband may be a bit confused by my decision, I was happy to find that he was just as excited as I was. If you are like we were, you might think that the city of Key West is not a place to celebrate a wedding.
However, despite our undying love for the Midwest, a vacation is supposed to be something separate from your day-to-day life. That is why the warmth, beauty and relaxation of Key West was very welcomed, and a perfect location for our honeymoon last Fall. I am thankful that my mother recommended we look for a bed and breakfast, as it was the most relaxing location to start and end our days.
