Political Revolution of Eritrea

Eritrea was associated with the first Ethiopian state of Aksum before it was declined in the 8th century. In the 16th century it was governed by the Ottoman Empire in the 16th century, and it was ruled by the Egyptians. The Italians took hold of the coastal regions in the year 1885, and the Uccialli treaty in May 2, 1889 offered Italy sovereignty some part of Eritrea. The Italians rechristened their colony after the Roman name, Mare Erythraeum, and governed there until II World War. In 1941, the British took hold of Eritrea and later governed it as a UN Trust Territory. Eritrea was made an Ethiopian province on Nov. 14, 1962. A civil war broke out against the Ethiopian government, led by rebel groups who opposed the union and wanted independence for Eritrea. Fighting continued over the next 32 years.

In 1991, the Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front deposed the country’s hard-line Communist dictator Mengistu. Without Mengistu’s troops to battle ahead, the Eritrean People’s Liberation Front was able to gain control of Asmara, the Eritrean capital, and form a provisional government. In 1993, a referendum on Eritrean independence was held, supported by the UN and the new Ethiopian government. Eritrean public unanimously selected an independent republic. Ethiopia established Eritrea’s sovereignty and a new era of cooperation, Eritrean culture, Ethiopian music, Eritrean music and tradition between the two countries started on May 3, 1993.

This cooperation could not last for long and the people of the country soon had to face trouble again. Post Eritrea’s independence, Ethiopia and Eritrea did not agreed on the actual demarcation of the borders, and the clashes on border stated in May 1998. The war concluded in a deadlock, and in December, 2000 a peace treaty was signed. In the year 2005, an international Court of Arbitration stated that Eritrea had breached the international law in 1998 by attacking Ethiopia.

Using Travel Brochures To Plan Your Vacation

One of the most difficult tasks for consumers to complete today, without outside aid, is the proper planning and execution of a vacation. Planning a vacation for just one person is challenging on its own, but for those consumers with a large amount of people in their party, such as families with many children, the vacation reaches a new level of difficulty and stress. This is why many consumers seek the help of a travel agent! The travel agent is an expert in not only the necessary travel plans, such as how to find hotel arrangements and the best deals on airfare, but also those other little details that first-time travelers cannot begin to guess on their own.

These are the kinds of things that only travelers that have actually experienced the country or event on their own can understand. When preparing a trip to Europe, consumers should consult a travel agent and travel brochures to help with their vacation plans. When first deciding on the most important aspects of the vacation, namely the “when” and “where,” consumers will find that the time of the year will greatly influence their trip. When traveling to tropical climates, such as the Caribbean or the Hawaiian islands, consumers will be able to experience lovely weather all year round. However, when venturing to France or other European countries in the Winter, travelers will need to prepare for snowfall and generally cold weather.

When traveling to Europe in the Spring or Summer months, travelers should expect to pay a premium for airfare, hotel stays, and even basic commodities. The tourist season will also come with a large amount of other tourists crowding the most popular destinations, which can be an issue for those that detest large crowds. When scanning the travel brochures for France, Italy, or England, travelers will find that some national monuments may be closed during certain weeks of the year. This is incredibly important for the travelers to find out before they leave, as it would be vastly disappointing to visit the Mona Lisa in the famous Musée du Louvre in Paris, only to find that it has been removed for a regular cleaning.

This information can also be provided by the travel agent, as they are used to finding out these contingencies for their traveling customers. When planning a trip to Paris, France, travelers should be aware of the different taxes that are added on to their purchases. In European Union countries, legislation has passed a new form of sales tax called the VAT, or Value Added Tax. As non-residents of the European Union, most travelers are eligible for a refund from this tax after they make a purchase. As these taxes are calculated into the actual price of the product, there is no additional calculation that consumers must perform before buying an item.

However, in order to receive a refund of 9% to 35% of their purchase, they will need to request the appropriate forms from the retailer at check-out. As the travelers will find in their travel brochures, the VAT is only refundable tax to consumers who shop in France if they spend a minimum of 175 Euros at one location! In other nations, such as Ireland, the shoppers will always be eligible for the refund, not matter how much they spend. If travelers find a shop in their travel brochures that fits their fancy and they do spend over 175 Euros, they will need to fill out the refund documents before leaving the country. Then, at the airport, they will need to visit the customs office to file the paperwork! Most times, they will be eligible for a cash refund.

Where are the Cacahuamilpa Caverns?

If you are looking for an unusual adventure tour in Mexico you could do a lot worse than the Cacahuamilpa Caverns.  Crisscrossing a limestone massif, a network of subterranean passages forms an eerie but fascinating underground museum. Hidden in a valley near Taxco, about 95 miles (150 kilometers) southwest of Mexico City, are the most famous caves in Mexico: Las Grutas de Cacahuamilpa. Carved by running water, they are part of an intricate network of underground river channels that riddle a massive limestone formation. Some of the rivers are still active: two surface streams, the San Geronimo and Chantolcoatlan, disappear underground, flow into each other, and reemerge as the Rio Amacuzac. Many former river channels, in contrast, are now high and dry.

The caves (their Aztec name means “place where the coca grows”) include a remarkable gallery 4,528 feet (1,380 meters) long, as much as 325 feet (100 meters) wide, and up to 230 feet (70 meters) high. Everywhere the surfaces are lavishly decorated with stone formations deposited layer upon layer by slowly dripping water. Stalactites hang like icicles from the ceiling, and even more impressive stalagmites jut up from the floor. Given such fanciful names as the Puente de los Cuerubines (“Cherubs Gate”) and Las Fuentas (“The Fountains”), some of these remarkable domelike structures are up to 130 feet (40 meters) high and 65 feet (20 meters) in diameter.

Once used as hideouts by bandits, the caves have been partially developed for sightseeing and continue to be explored today. Among the maze of passageways, chambers of extraordinary size have been discovered. In some of them the roofs have caved in to form giant, well-like sinkholes and collapsed depressions known as dolinas. Openings in the walls of the dolinas provide access to still other underground river channels.

Many more caverns are found in this limestone terrain, including the Cave of Carlos Pacheco, the Cave of Acnitlapan, and others. It seems likely that further exploration will lead to the discovery of connections between them forming a single vast subterranean river system.

Luggage Packing Tips

Packing your luggage properly is essential for avoiding problems at busy airports and stations. A hassle free trip can be achieved through following some basic pointers for packing your belongings. Regardless of where you are going and how long your trip is, these tips can help keep your items safe and free from problems.

Check the Rules

Always check with your airline for the latest regulations and rules regarding what can be taken on planes. It may seem convenient to carry bottle of perfume in your carry-on rolling suitcase, but the item will probably be confiscated while passing through the baggage check. The big problem with traveling is that all unpermitted items will need to be thrown out if you cannot take them with you.

Plan Ahead

The belongings you pack will depend on where you are going. For a beach trip with your family, pack your kids rolling suitcase and your suitcase with plenty of clothes and toys that will keep everyone happy for the entire duration of the trip. Bring enough clothes to wear the entire time so you will not find yourself running short in the middle of your trip.

Pack Safely

Avoid items that can easily break or get damaged while traveling. Airports tend to handle check-in baggage quite roughly, so bring any breakable items in your carry-on. Computers and glass items should never be placed in check-in baggage without a large amount of wrapping. One way to wrap fragile items is to use clothing if you do not have bubble wrap. Heavy items like shoes and books should be packed at the bottom of the suitcase to keep it from crushing other belongings. Fold your clothes neatly to help leave room for other items. Socks can also be rolled and tucked into shoes if you are especially low on space.
