Choosing the Right Types of Window Treatments for Sliding Glass Doors

Whether your sliding glass door has an overlay of vertical blinds or not, all homeowners can benefit from purchasing window treatments for sliding glass doors. In fact, depending on where a person’s sliding door faces, especially those facing east or west, some people may prefer to use a combination of vertical blinds and window curtains. This allows full coverage to be in place when the sun’s rays are the strongest and a choice of blind or curtain usage when sunlight is less intense.

If using a combination of blinds and window curtains, shoppers may want to purchase lighter-weight, window treatments for sliding glass doors. This will allow homeowners to close both their curtains and vertical blinds completely when needing total darkness, and to open their blinds and let light filter through the curtain’s sheer material when requiring partial room light. If interested in lighter-fabric curtains, shoppers should purchase fabric panels, made with a sheer material, that can be fixed on an adjustable curtain rod.

Heavier weight lined curtains can also be drawn back to allow full or partial sunlight. Shoppers will want to look for curtains that have tieback accessories or purchase separately-sold, coordinating tiebacks. To have a matching look, when purchasing a curtain rod; make sure tieback hardware is in the same metal and color as the curtain rod. This uniformity in hardware will help create a more polished look.

Finally, length is very important. Shoppers will want to measure their blind’s length; always making sure to purchase curtains that will hang at least to the end of each door’s blinds. Allow a few inches for hanging and this will ensure your curtains will be the proper length. If curtains are somewhat too long, they can always be professionally hemmed. By using these techniques, your sliding door will present a well-designed look and will allow you to always be in control of the room’s natural light.
