CZ Costume Eternity Rings That Don’t Catch Or Snag Clothing
One of the biggest drawbacks to costume eternity rings mage with faux diamonds, rhinestones, crystal or cubic zirconia, is that, while they look fantastic and sparkle like the real thing, they often catch on clothing and snag fabric they touch very easily. This is only partly due to the CZ eternity bands being fake diamonds that may be manufactured with less care than the more expensive designs because even some of the most expensive eternity ring creations with real diamonds have the same problem. The reason some eternity bands tend to catch on fine fabrics is because of the setting not because of the gem itself. CZs are smooth and cut the same way as diamonds. They are also set in the same style mountings using basically the same techniques.
So why do some eternity rings catch and snag while others don’t?
Diamond and CZ eternity bands are gemstone intensive, meaning they have stones all the way around the band, often using 40 or more in a single ring. The most common setting is called “prong set” and what that means is that 4 metal claws, or prongs, hold each stone in place. That means that in one ring there can be as many as 160 claw style prongs securing the stones, and these tiny little claws are slightly raised because around or over the stones and it is these little pieces of metal that often cause the snagging problem. This is an issue with diamonds, sapphires, emeralds and even ruby eternity rings that use this style of setting, however, in cheap silver creations or costume jewelry styles, it may be even more of a problem if great care has not been taken to ensure the prongs are smooth and properly filed or polished. However, even the best filed and polished silver costume eternity rings and real eternity bands may still present a problem since the prong itself may be smooth but still catch on very delicate silk fabrics simply because of the way they are elevated.
