Dirt Cheap Carpet Remnants
Joey walked into the shop, trying to hide an itching grin under his baseball cap. He wandered along one wall until he’d gained control of himself. He looked up. No one was at the counter. So he wandered quietly some more, caressing the bear skins and tiger skins nailed to the wooden walls. They were beautiful, really. Rich, soft, deep colors that you would only find in nature’s palette. Finally, Joey cleared his throat. An older man poked his head out of an office door. The man said nothing, only stared. Joey gathered the courage, and then blurted, “Hey, man, I’m looking for some dirt cheap carpet remnants. What’ve you got?” At the instant that Joey’s laughter burst through, the old man grabbed a bat. Joey ran.
