Home Design – Learning From Nature

I am a true believer in mimicking nature to create the best results possible. I love watching the way nature survives and adapts and then trying to come up with ways that I can utilise these ideas in my own home. For example, I was watching a wasp last weekend. It was a lazy summer afternoon, and I was resting on my patio. This wasp was travelling backwards and forwards with little bits of dirt and was slowly building a nest for itself. I decided that this would be a great way to build an outside oven, and I proceeded to collect some landfill from some neighbours. The end result is a fantastic pizza oven ion opur backyard. It holds the heat so well that I can roast a full chicken in 20 minutes.

This is why I was so excited when I heard of the honeycomb blind. The design of these blinds mimic the way bees create their homes, and the insulation properties of this particular structure is incredible. For such a lightweight solution, it keeps out the summer heat tremendously. So after a hot session of pizza making in my new oven, I can sit in the cool of my home behind my honeycomb blinds and enjoy a refreshing iced tea. Nature is a wonderful thing.
