Most outdoor enthusiasts have never really experienced seeing wildlife first hand; close up and in a situation where the animal is totally relaxed and going about their daily business without being on edge. Sure we have all happened across wildlife which has then run away, seen a nervous animal in a field or watched something from afar; but until you are right up to wildlife – in their domain, you can’t really say that you have seen anything. With the addition of a little patience, bush craft, common sense and above all a little cheap camouflage clothing you can experience wildlife in a whole new perspective.

Camouflage clothing does not have to be expensive – sure there are hundreds of patented patterns on the market that mimic forest, marshland and moorland sceneries; but just by looking at your surroundings and adapting your clothing, you can get right up into the face of wildlife and bring your outdoor adventure to a new level. The first stage is just to use your eyes and pick out a general color of your target environment. If you are aiming to stalk through a forest, wear green. If you are at night, wear black and of course in the desert, beige. Step two is to make yourself look less than a human being by confusing your outline. An upright animal, walking on two legs, about 6 feet high with two arms is going to spell danger for most target species. A simple poncho will disguise your arms, branches and twigs attached to your clothing will conceal your silhouette and a hat and some face paint will help to hide your face. Of course the most expensive camouflage clothing will not work if you get a call on your mobile telephone, if you talk or walk around like a bull in a china shop – use a little bush craft. Stay downwind to your prey, take cover by using the environment around you and take your time. By using these simple tips your hunting, photography or spotting will take on a whole new dimension.
