The doors in your home tend to be a forgotten artifact when making improvements, but they are one of the easiest and most affordable things that you can improve in your house.  You don’t have to change the door, just upgrade everything else that goes with it!

The door knobs that come with houses when they’re built are usually very plain and generic.  Any sort of improvement to them will be dramatic because many people don’t do it at all.  Antique crystal doorknobs are relatively affordable and easy to find and install.  You can also just change the plain ones to a fancier brass door knob, which will also make a dramatic impact.  Improving the security of your front door with a new entry doorknob is also a good idea.

You don’ t have to stop at the knob.  Door hinges are also very easy and affordable to replace.  Most hinges in homes work just fine, so this is purely an aesthetic improvement.  You can find these door hinges at your local hardware store or online.  Just remember that you have a lot of hinges in your house, so it’s a good idea to wait for sales or free shipping before you buy.

The small details like these are what can turn potential buyers into the ones that sign the mortgage.  Take the extra time that you have in your home to knock out these small projects one at a time and you’ll be very happy once it finally pays off!
