Music is Food for the Soul

In the early times, music was identified to be simple. With a simple tune and a set of lyrics, people enjoyed singing and dancing in rhythm with the songs. However, as time changes, the genres of music also changed. In order to decipher music and its specific genres, much instrumentation is needed. The point here is that despite the multifaceted transformation of music, the essentiality of its making and composition affects humanity in whatever era they exist.

As a form of art using sound as a medium, Music has elements to complete its package. Pitch comes from the variations of melody and harmony while rhythm is associated with the timing of tempo and articulation. In music, dynamics must be considered to enhance the quality of your chosen timbre and texture which is generally appreciated when there is an accompaniment. In general, music has variations depending of its origin of culture and social perspective. It is divided by genres and sub genres adapted and performed by numerous artists. The interpretation is made by artists and reflection is connected with its listeners.

To most of us, music is a part and parcel of life. 20th Century composer, John Cage emphasized that any sound can be music, implying also that “there is no noise, there is only sound”. So in the midst of cultural diversity and in societal views, what is music for others may not be music for you. Whatever image a music presents, it is still a sound either appreciated or depreciated by the ears. As long as music is performed, it is an art physically expressed. It is ornamented, produced, composed, notated and improvised so it is therefore a process.

Music is what keeps an individual emotionally attached to the truth brought about by life. Through music, we learn how to deal with dilemmas, quandaries and success in life. Music allows us to strive for our dreams. It gives us hope to love; it gives us hope to live. It is a food for the soul.
