Over forty women typically find it very difficult to stay in shape and lose weight and there are loads of reasons as to why this is so. You have the slowing down of the body’s metabolism as you age, poor eating habits and hormonal imbalances to name a few. The latter, which is hormonal imbalance is one of the biggest contributing factor on why losing weight after 40 for women becomes an extremely challenging task. 1.) Never Skip Breakfast – Having a hearty breakfast every morning is very important as it helps rev up the metabolism of your body after several hours of fasting (while you sleep), so it can kick start the process of burning calories. If you tend to skip your breakfast, your metabolism will slow down and you are only going to be able to burn few calories; hence, make it difficult for you to shed an ideal amount of weight.
2.) Refrain from Drinking Sodas and Other Sugary Drinks – This is imperative if you wish to get in great shape. Sodas as you may already know contain loads of sugar. It contains no fiber or any nutrient whatsoever and drinking much of it will cause quick spikes in your insulin and blood sugar level. This in effect will make your body store fats; instead of lose them. Substitute your sodas with soya milk, green tea, freshly squeezed juice or at best, plain and simple water.
3.) Drink Plenty of Water – There is still no explanation to this, but your sense of thirst typically decreases with age. You might not feel that you are thirty, but in fact, you might already be on the brink of dehydration! So, make a habit of drinking plenty of water all throughout the day and more of which whenever you are exercising.
4.) Eat Good Carbohydrates – There are good carbs and these encourage weight loss and there are also bad ones and they do nothing, but cause you to gain weight. Some samples of good carbohydrate foods are whole grain rice, whole meal breads, chickpeas, lentils, red beans and green leafy vegetables.
5.) Have Healthy Snacks – A lot of women love having snacks. However, normally what they would go for are junk foods, cakes, chocolate cookies, French fries and the like. What you would need are healthy snacks like for instance sunflower seeds, almonds, apricots, figs and other dried fruits.
