The Basics of a Pig Hunt
Hunting has been with us since the dawn of humankind. In prehistoric times, the hunting party’s responsibility was to supply the village, or family, with a sufficient meat supply. Nearly humans have hunted any animal that has a decent amount of fur or meat. Nowadays, there is no need to hunt in forests for food, most of your hunting takes place in the supermarket. We can select the meat we want form our local butcher, there is really no need to go out scavenging the forests for wildlife.
Nowadays, in areas were civilization has been allowed to advance, hunting is no longer a necessity. Of course, there are still many tribal people who live off what the earth supplies them with, like the aborigines in Africa or Australia. However, in modern day countries, hunting has evolved into a sport.
Many hunters hunt animals solely for the purpose of trophies. If you have exotic trophies, like tiger, leopard and lion skin for example, you will gain allot of respect from the hunting communities. A popular animal to hunt today is the wild boar, also known as wild pig.
A pig hunt is simply a sport in which a pig is let lose in an area, and hunters must try to kill it in a certain amount of time. Of course, there are many variations of pig hunts today, some for sport, and some for actual food. One form of pig hunting, which originated sometime ago, is called pig sticking. In this pig hunt, men on horseback attempt to stab the big with a sharp, spear. The first person to stab the pig wins, of course, the hunter must not disembark his horse, and he must reach down, and stab the pig while riding the horse at the same time. This sport was common in India, and several other countries. Wild pigs, can prove to be quite dangerous as well.
When enraged, the boar will charge towards his opponent with sharp horns, if the boar is allowed to reach his target, the person may be seriously injured. So, keep safety in mind while you are in the wild on your outdoor adventures, because many wild boars still roam around in the wild.
