Email Virus – This virus comes in and goes out through emails, and so just as someone can infect you, you can also be a carrier.

File Infecting Virus – This virus uses the command files like .exe and .com to destroy files and applications. Watch out for this one, it’s really going to cause your PC to crash.

You can also get infected through spread of virus if you have external devices like a external drive that you hook up to your PC through a USB port. If you do not know where this external drive has been, then chances are it could be infected.

The harmful effects of viruses can be avoided if you get a good antivirus software. It doesn’t matter if it is a free or paid security software, so long as it provides you with high level of protection against virus attacks. It would be virtually impossible not to be affected by these harmful viruses without the software. There is no way even an computer expert can track down all incoming and outgoing viruses.
