Why You Need a Fireplace Grate
Using a fireplace grate can save you money by not burning through as much wood. The grate holds the wood off the bottom, allowing air to flow between the wood. This will create a much hotter, more efficient fire. The grate also keeps the burning logs off the bottom of your fireplace, adding more life to your fireplace floor. The grates are usually curved in a semi circle, keeping the wood close together. This will save you the hassle of constantly stirring the fire, to keep the logs close together. A more consistent burn, will provide more heat overall.
The grate can also make lighting a fire much easier. The airflow will ensure the fire is getting enough oxygen to start quickly, and keep burning. A smothered fire will also produce a large amount of smoke. A grate will help cut down on the smoke, by providing the necessary air circulation.
