My wife has a rather extensive jewelry collection. Collecting jewelry is her hobby. Her love of jewelry started when she was a child. Her mother had a rather extensive jewelry collection consisting of many heirlooms that have been passed down from generation to generation. She talks fondly of the days when she was a child and tells stories of how she would play dress up with her mother. On rainy days they would sometimes dress up in their Sunday best and stand in front of the mirror trying on various jewelry pieces. All these memories led my wife into a hobby that she loves to this day.
Recently my wife’s mother passed away and she inherited all of her mother’s jewelry. As I stated, it was quite an extensive collection that consists of many beautiful antique pieces of jewelry. As a result, my wife now has 5 different jewelry boxes sitting on her dresser that are stuffed with jewelry. None of the boxes matched and it made her dresser look cluttered. Since my wife’s birthday was coming up, I was struggling with the age old question that most men struggle with each year; what should I get my wife? Since I did not do a very good job on her birthday in the prior two years, I wanted to do something special for her this time around. As I began to think about what would make her happiest, I literally stumbled upon the perfect idea. I was going out to look at some potential gifts one morning when I entered the bedroom to tell my wife I was leaving. She was in the bedroom sorting through all of her jewelry. When I asked her what she was doing, she stated that she was cleaning out some old jewelry and storing it away so that her jewelry boxes were not so cluttered. Bingo! I realized then and there that a large jewelry box would be the perfect gift.
I did not know anything about jewelry boxes so I went to the store and started to look around. As I did a store clerk came up to me and asked me if I needed help. I told her the situation and explained that I needed a very large jewelry box. As we continued to talk about what I needed she suggested that I look into a jewelry armoire (picture me standing there with a deer in the headlights look). She explained to me that a jewelry armoire was a large jewelry box that was more akin to a furniture piece, much like a small dresser made specifically for jewelry. Bingo! That is exactly what I needed and would make the perfect gift for my wife’s birthday.
After searching for several days, I finally found the perfect wooden armoire. It was made of cherry wood with gold hardware and handles that oozed elegance and matched our bedroom décor perfectly. Like most of the armoires that I looked at, it has drawers down the center with various sized compartments. The top of the armoire was hinged like a standard jewelry box and when opened had a large mirror. Inside the top of the armoire was a series of ring folds, all upholstered in a beautiful suede lining. On each side of the armoire were doors that opened up to reveal hooks with spaces to hang all of my wife’s necklaces.
When I gave this gift to my wife she cried with joy. She thought that it was the perfect gift and thanked me over and over again for coming up with such a thoughtful idea. Even she hadn’t thought about purchasing a jewelry armoire despite her large jewelry collection. So the moral to this story is that if you know someone who has a large jewelry collection and you are looking for the perfect gift for them, consider a jewelry armoire. It is a unique and beautiful gift that will show how much thought and consideration you put into choosing the perfect gift and will provide a needed solution to storing a large jewelry collection.
