When you’ve got some work to do in the backyard in the middle of the summer you know you’re in for a gruelling day. The heat can be particularly oppressive and it doesn’t take long before you are dripping with sweat. There is a way to beat the heat and still get your work done but it is a little unconventional.
As unconventional as it is, it is certainly effective. What is it? It’s a misting system that provides you with an outdoor cooling system that is cheap to run and is very effective. These systems can be operated in two ways: with a misting fan and with a misting line.
The misting fan looks very much like a large industrial fan but it contains a vital difference in that there are a series of misting nozzles positioned in front of the whirling blades of the fan. Each misting nozzle produces extremely small water droplets that are quickly evaporated by the blowing wind created by the fan. This evaporative process provides the cooling effect and the surrounding temperature is reduced dramatically. We often see these misting fans in use at football matches when the weather is warm.
A misting line is a little different in that it involves a water hose that is installed above head height in a space such as a patio. Along the length of the water hose are a series of misting nozzles. Again, these nozzles produce extremely fine water droplets that are forced out under the pressure built up by the force of the house water pressure. This pressure can be increased by including a pump in the system. The greater the pressure, the smaller the water droplets and the faster the water is evaporated to create the cooling effect.
In both cases the temperature in the surrounding area can be cooled by as much as 30 degrees and the working conditions are greatly improved. Working outside need never be a dreaded occasion due to the heat thanks to the use of an outdoor cooling system.
